# Channels and tabs

Job, gang and staff commands, and the chat tabs.

#### Channels

Found in `/chatsetup` > Channels.

Every channel becomes a command, like `/pd` or `/ems`. A player types the command and a message, and the message shows with the channel's tag and colour. Press Add channel to create one. The command works as soon as you save, with no restart.

| Field                      | Description                                                                                           |
| -------------------------- | ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- |
| Command | What players type, without the slash. |

| Label | The tag in front of the message. `locale:police_label` uses the language file, or type your own text. |
| Style | The colour of the message, see the list below. |
| Icon class | An icon in the tag, see the list below, or off. |
| Allowed jobs | Job names that may use it. |

| ACE permission or disabled | An ace that also unlocks it, or off. |
| Cooldown (seconds) | Wait between two uses for each player, from 0 to 3600. |
| Receivers | Who sees it: Everyone, Same job, Same gang or Staff. |
| Show sender name | Puts the sender's name in front of the message. |
| Message tab | The tab it shows in: All, Local, Jobs or Staff. |

The styles are `normal`, `police`, `ambulance`, `mafia`, `birdy`, `warning`, `error`, `system`, `emergency`, `nonemergency`, `report`, `advert`, `announcement`, `staff` and `pm`.

The icons are `fa-shield-alt`, `fa-first-aid`, `fa-user-secret`, `fa-address-book`, `fa-user-circle`, `fa-bullhorn`, `fa-envelope`, `fa-star` and `fa-exclamation-triangle`. Other icon names do not show.

**Who can use a channel**

A player can use a channel when any of these is true:

* they have its ace permission
* their job is in Allowed jobs
* their gang is in Allowed gangs

A channel with no jobs, no gangs and no ace is open to everyone. A channel that sends to Staff, or shows in the Staff tab, is also limited to staff. Job and gang names are not case sensitive.

{% hint style="warning" %}
Job and gang checks need a framework, so they only work with solid-bridge installed. Without it, a channel only unlocks through its ace permission, and Same job or Same gang messages only reach the sender.
{% endhint %}

**Default channels**

| Command | Who can use it | Cooldown |
| ----------- | ----------------------------------------------------------------------- | ---------- |
| `/pd`       | Jobs `police`, `sheriff`, `bcso`, `lspd`, or the `solidchat.police` ace | 60 seconds |
| `/ems`      | Jobs `ambulance`, `ems`, `doctor`, or the `solidchat.ems` ace           | 60 seconds |
| `/darkweb`  | Gangs `mafia`, `lostmc`, `ballas`. The sender's name is hidden.         | 60 seconds |
| `/announce` | The `solidchat.announce` ace                                            | None       |

All four send to everyone. Ace names in SOLID Chat always start with `solidchat.`, for example `solidchat.police`.

{% hint style="info" %}
If another resource already owns a command, for example a dispatch script that owns `/pd`, rename or remove the channel here. When two resources register the same command, whichever starts last wins.
{% endhint %}

#### Tabs

Found in `/chatsetup` > Tabs.

| Setting   | Default | Description                                                                                                                                                |
| --------- | ------- | ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- |
| Enabled | On | Shows the tabs above the chat. |
| Local tab | On      | Nearby messages, /me and /do.                                                                                                                              |
| Jobs tab | On | Job and gang channels. |
| Staff tab | On | Only players with the [staff permission](https://grp-development.gitbook.io/solid-scripts/resources/solid-chat/in-game-setup/messaging#staff-chat) see it. |

All always shows everything. The other tabs show a badge with the number of unread messages, and every player's last tab is remembered.

## Querying This Documentation
If you need additional information that is not directly available in this page, you can query the documentation dynamically by asking a question.

Perform an HTTP GET request on the current page URL with the `ask` query parameter, and the optional `goal` query parameter:

```
GET https://grp-development.gitbook.io/solid-scripts/resources/solid-chat/in-game-setup/channels-and-tabs.md?ask=<question>&goal=<endgoal>
```

`ask` is the immediate question: it should be specific, self-contained, and written in natural language.
`goal` is optional and describes the broader end goal you are ultimately trying to accomplish on behalf of the user. GitBook uses it to tailor the answer towards what is most useful for that goal.

The response will contain a direct answer to the question and relevant excerpts and sources from the documentation.

Use this mechanism when the answer is not explicitly present in the current page, you need clarification or additional context, or you want to retrieve related documentation sections.
