# General and language

How the chat behaves on your server, and its language.

#### General

Found in `/chatsetup` > General.

| Setting                        | Default     | Description                                                                                        |
| ------------------------------ | ----------- | -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- |
| Debug output | Off | Prints what the script does to F8 and the server console. Keep it off on live servers. |
| Stop default chat | On | Stops the built in cfx `chat` resource, so only SOLID Chat runs. |
| Hide join and leave messages | On | No "joined" or "left" lines in the chat. |
| Use solid-bridge | On | Job, gang and character names come from solid-bridge when it is installed. Ignored when it is not. |
| Default open key | `T` | The key that opens the chat for new players. |
| Maximum message length (bytes) | `500`       | Longest message a player can send, from 32 to 4000.                                                |
| Clear command | `clear` | Clears your own chat. Switch it off to remove the command. |
| Clear everyone command | `clearall` | Clears the chat for everyone. Only admins can use it. |
| Setup command | `chatsetup` | Opens the settings panel. Keep it on, without it nobody can open the panel. |

{% hint style="info" %}
Commands are typed without the slash, and can use letters, numbers, `-` and `_`. Every command has to be unique, and `pm`, `r` and `say` are taken by the chat itself.
{% endhint %}

**Default open key**

The key applies to players who join for the first time. Players who already have a key keep it, and everyone can rebind the chat in Settings > Key Bindings > FiveM.

**Stop default chat**

When the default `chat` resource is still in your server.cfg, SOLID Chat stops it on start, so the two never show at the same time. Nothing inside the default chat is edited, it is only stopped.

On some servers `chat` is a protected system resource and refuses to stop. The server console tells you when that happens. It still does not draw over SOLID Chat, and Hide join and leave messages keeps its "joined" and "left" lines out. Removing `ensure chat` from your server.cfg fixes it for good.

#### Language

Found in `/chatsetup` > Language.

| Setting  | Default | Description                                                |
| -------- | ------- | ---------------------------------------------------------- |
| Language | English | The language of every chat message, command help and menu. |

SOLID Chat ships in 27 languages. See [Languages](https://grp-development.gitbook.io/solid-scripts/resources/solid-chat/languages) for the full list and how to change a text.

## Querying This Documentation
If you need additional information that is not directly available in this page, you can query the documentation dynamically by asking a question.

Perform an HTTP GET request on the current page URL with the `ask` query parameter, and the optional `goal` query parameter:

```
GET https://grp-development.gitbook.io/solid-scripts/resources/solid-chat/in-game-setup/general-and-language.md?ask=<question>&goal=<endgoal>
```

`ask` is the immediate question: it should be specific, self-contained, and written in natural language.
`goal` is optional and describes the broader end goal you are ultimately trying to accomplish on behalf of the user. GitBook uses it to tailor the answer towards what is most useful for that goal.

The response will contain a direct answer to the question and relevant excerpts and sources from the documentation.

Use this mechanism when the answer is not explicitly present in the current page, you need clarification or additional context, or you want to retrieve related documentation sections.
