# Look and shortcuts

The default look for new players, and the shortcut buttons.

#### Look

Found in `/chatsetup` > Look.

These are the defaults for new players. Every player can still change their own text size, chat size, opacity, timestamps and mention sound with the gear icon in the chat. Reset player settings in that menu brings back your defaults.

| Setting                  | Default              | Description                                                                                           |
| ------------------------ | -------------------- | ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- |
| Text size (pixels) | `15` | Text size on a 1080p screen, from 10 to 24. It scales with the resolution. |
| Chat size (%)            | `100`                | Size of the chat window, from 75 to 140.                                                              |
| Background opacity (0–1) | `0.7`                | 0 is clear, 1 is solid.                                                                               |
| Fade timeout (ms) | `4000` | How long the chat stays on screen after the last message. |
| Message history limit | `200` | Messages kept in the scroll history, from 20 to 2000. |
| Suggestion limit         | `6`                  | Command suggestions listed while you type, from 1 to 20.                                              |
| Show timestamps | Off | A small clock in front of every message. |
| Input placeholder | `locale:placeholder` | Grey text in the empty input box. `locale:placeholder` uses the language file, or type your own text. |

#### Shortcuts

Found in `/chatsetup` > Shortcuts.

The shortcut buttons sit under the input box, grouped in categories. A click types the button's command into the input, so the player only adds the rest. The first category opens by default.

| Field         | Description                                                         |
| ------------- | ------------------------------------------------------------------- |
| Category name | Name of the category tab. `locale:featured` uses the language file. |
| Label | Text on the button. |
| Command | The command it types, without the slash. |
| Help text | Shown when a player hovers the button. |

You can add up to 24 categories, with up to 24 buttons each.

| Category | Buttons                                       |
| -------- | --------------------------------------------- |
| Featured | `/ooc`, `/me`, `/do`, `/pd`, `/ems`, `/clear` |
| Player   | `/id`, `/job`, `/me`, `/pay`                  |

{% hint style="info" %}
A button only types its command. Commands such as `/ooc`, `/id`, `/job` and `/pay` come from your framework or other resources, so point the buttons at commands your server has.
{% endhint %}

**Personal shortcuts**

Players can rearrange their own copy with the gear icon > Shortcuts. They can add, remove and move buttons, pin a command to a category and add categories of their own. Their layout is saved on their own PC, and Reset default brings back yours.

## Querying This Documentation
If you need additional information that is not directly available in this page, you can query the documentation dynamically by asking a question.

Perform an HTTP GET request on the current page URL with the `ask` query parameter, and the optional `goal` query parameter:

```
GET https://grp-development.gitbook.io/solid-scripts/resources/solid-chat/in-game-setup/look-and-shortcuts.md?ask=<question>&goal=<endgoal>
```

`ask` is the immediate question: it should be specific, self-contained, and written in natural language.
`goal` is optional and describes the broader end goal you are ultimately trying to accomplish on behalf of the user. GitBook uses it to tailor the answer towards what is most useful for that goal.

The response will contain a direct answer to the question and relevant excerpts and sources from the documentation.

Use this mechanism when the answer is not explicitly present in the current page, you need clarification or additional context, or you want to retrieve related documentation sections.
