# Messaging

Private messages, mentions, the word filter and staff chat.

#### Private messages

Found in `/chatsetup` > Private messages.

Players message each other by server ID with `/pm [id] [message]`, and answer the last player who messaged them with `/r [message]`.

| Setting            | Default | Description                                              |
| ------------------ | ------- | -------------------------------------------------------- |
| Enabled            | On      | Lets players use /pm and /r.                             |
| Cooldown (seconds) | `2`     | Wait between two private messages, shared by /pm and /r. |
| Sound | On | Plays a small sound when a private message arrives. |

Both players see the message in their chat, and only the receiver hears the sound. Nobody else sees it.

#### Mentions

Found in `/chatsetup` > Mentions.

A message that mentions a player is highlighted for them, with a ping.

| Setting         | Default | Description                                           |
| --------------- | ------- | ----------------------------------------------------- |
| Enabled | On | Highlights messages that mention you. |
| Match server ID | On | Matches your exact server ID, for example `@12`. |
| Match full name | On | Matches your full character name, or your FiveM name. |
| Sound | On | Plays a ping when someone mentions you. |

Your own messages never ping you. Every player can switch the mention sound off for themselves with the gear icon.

#### Word filter

Found in `/chatsetup` > Word filter.

| Setting                | Default                  | Description                                           |
| ---------------------- | ------------------------ | ----------------------------------------------------- |
| Enabled | On | Checks player messages against the blocked words. |
| Blocked words | Empty | Type a word or phrase and press Enter, up to 200. |
| Filter mode | Censor | Censor hides the word, Block stops the whole message. |
| Censored replacement   | `***`                    | Text shown instead of a blocked word.                 |
| Match whole words only | Off | Off also catches the word inside longer words. |
| Filter bypass ACE | `solidchat.filterbypass` | Players with this ace skip the filter. |

The filter checks everything players type: public chat, private messages, channels, staff chat, /me and /do. `BAD`, `Bad` and `bad` are all caught. Messages your own resources send through the exports or events are never filtered.

#### Staff chat

Found in `/chatsetup` > Staff.

A private chat for your staff team. Staff send messages with `/staff [message]`, and only staff see them, in the Staff tab and in All.

| Setting                 | Default           | Description                                    |
| ----------------------- | ----------------- | ---------------------------------------------- |
| Enabled | On | Turns the staff chat and its command on. |
| Command | `staff` | The command staff use, without the slash. |
| ACE permission | `solidchat.staff` | Players with this ace count as staff. |
| Bridge staff permission | `admin`           | Staff permission checked through solid-bridge. |
| Cooldown (seconds)      | `2`               | Wait between two staff messages.               |

A player counts as staff when they have the ace, or when solid-bridge gives them the bridge staff permission. When that changes in game, their Staff tab shows or hides within a few seconds.

## Querying This Documentation
If you need additional information that is not directly available in this page, you can query the documentation dynamically by asking a question.

Perform an HTTP GET request on the current page URL with the `ask` query parameter, and the optional `goal` query parameter:

```
GET https://grp-development.gitbook.io/solid-scripts/resources/solid-chat/in-game-setup/messaging.md?ask=<question>&goal=<endgoal>
```

`ask` is the immediate question: it should be specific, self-contained, and written in natural language.
`goal` is optional and describes the broader end goal you are ultimately trying to accomplish on behalf of the user. GitBook uses it to tailor the answer towards what is most useful for that goal.

The response will contain a direct answer to the question and relevant excerpts and sources from the documentation.

Use this mechanism when the answer is not explicitly present in the current page, you need clarification or additional context, or you want to retrieve related documentation sections.
